Gallery 55 is pleased to announce that Jiaxing-based artist Chen Rongyi’s debut individual exhibition "Garden without Mondrian" will open on the 16th of May 2020. Comprising newly completed ink and colour works on Chinese rice paper, the show is scheduled to end on the 5th of July 2020.

The inspiration of Chen Rongyi’s creation came from the feeling walking through the high rise buildings shuttering in the metropolis and the direct eye contact with the windows on the square latticed glass walls. To him, those modern architecture provide a beautifully cold and rationally isolated world of being, confusing as yet helpless. Chen Rongyi so decided to plant a sprinkling of flowers in the rooms behind the windows using ink and colour on Chinese rice paper.

Chen Rongyi was born in Fujian Province in 1972. He went to study oil painting at Fujian Normal University and art education at Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing. Currently, he lives and works in Jiaxing in Zhejiang Province, China.
