XIONG Yanjun:LINGER
Xiong Yanjun’s solo exhibition "LINGER" opens on May 13, 2023. The exhibition displays a series of mixed media works newly completed by the artist, and the exhibition is expected to end on June 23. This is the second solo exhibition presented by Xiong Yanjun at the gallery after "FOLLOW the OBJECT" in 2021.
"PANHUAN", which is the ninth line of the early part of the Book of Changes, means that all things are chaotic and block depression. We should firmly guard and accumulate strength. "PANHUAN" is later extended to "LINGER", with the meaning of wandering and staying. Multiple interpretations can point to an imagination of transforming energy under continuous pressure, which can quite meet Xiong Yanjun’s creative state at this stage.
Xiong Yanjun was born in Lu’an City, Anhui Province in 1977. He graduated from the School of Fine Arts of Anhui Normal University in 2001. In 2008, he graduated from the Fine Arts Research Institute of Nanjing University with a Master’s Degree in Art. He now lives and works in Wuhu City, Anhui Province. Xiong Yanjun has committed to exploring the historical, material and conceptual boundaries of formalism in painting. Recently, it has been deduced to the reflection and practice of the relationship between the generation, perception and value construction of things/art.
