Yin Changzhi:UPANDDOWN

Yin Changzhi’s individual exhibition “UPANDDOWN" opens on the 2nd of March. Comprising newly created mixed material works on canvas, the show continues through the 7th of April. This is Yin Changzhi’s fifth solo presentation at the Gallery since 2018.

The name of the exhibition “UPANDDOWN” has two aspects: on the one hand, it is related to the physical structure of the work, referring to the high and low forms formed between the materials; On the other hand, it is related to the subject of creation, and also refers to a certain situation and state of people. When the material forms a large number of water traces through the action of paint and water, these water traces are also a kind of spiritual portrayal of human beings, and also express the lasting relationship between the creative subject and the painting.

Yin Changzhi’s recent painting practice attempts to compress the structural space, presenting a flat state. Through collage and pulling between cloth surfaces, a number of intermingled gaps are formed, and brush strokes and marks formed by pigments on the material can be seen everywhere. The effect of water increases the rheological properties of water and milk, which weakens the materiality of the material and turns into a collection full of illusions. The material flows in a limited void to reveal a surface full of illusions. At this time, the subject of the painting emerges, with a feeling of emotion to promote the next step of the picture, and the change of creative motivation also generates a new sign: the painting can be a question about itself, or the subject can not avoid the expression. In the process of painting, the trace formed by the dilution of the pigment penetrates into the depth of the texture of the material and forms an organic whole. After the coarse and fine texture formed by the thick coating and thin dyeing, the painting returns to the origin again, or it can be temporarily identified as a variety of assumptions that create illusion and comfort.
