YU Aijun:Mountain Range
Yu Aijun’s individual exhibition "Mountain Range" opens on the 13th of April, 2024. “Mountain Range" is artist Yu Aijun’s third solo exhibition at the Gallery. The works on display are almost entirely new from the last few years, including large free canvas paintings, drawings on wood panels and installation embroidery on canvas, as well as an oil collage on wax paper. The exhibition runs through the 19th of May.
Yu Aijun holds firm "use-ism" in his artistic work. He believes that all individual creation is a visible end of the comprehensive movement landscape of the times, freedom is the control, self is the other. Over the years, he has been concerned with the problems and conflicts between individuals and collectives in many fields, selecting and extracting images or images from our times, integrating materials and perceptions, objects and virtual, trying to reproduce “the moment of experience being questioned", and thus carrying out political commentary and media imagination. His practice mainly focuses on painting, including painting as an antenna and object to touch on a variety of media fields, work in the "sketch" rethinking, graffiti, painting and free material and shape of the "intermediate", ready-to-use, (temporary) installation, video and experimental (poetry) writing. All of this is based on his personal temperament and working logic generated by his encounters with actions, sites, materials and traditional resources, from which he also hopes to derive his personal sense of language, skills and methods.
Yu Aijun (b.1971) graduated from the Oil Painting Department of Luxun Academy of Fine Arts in 2004. He currently lives and works in the southern suburb of Shenyang.
