In Zen, "West meaning" originally refers to the meaning and purpose of Bodhidharma, the originator of Zen, coming to the East from the West Heaven (India), and later extended to the general meaning of Buddhism, or the true essence of Zen, which is a universal and ultimate inquiry with the same meaning as inquiring into the great meaning of Buddhism in Zen.Master Dharma is regarded as the original father of Zen Buddhism. He came to China from India to practice and spread Zen teachings.Later Zen Buddhism regards his arrival and the teachings as an important beginning and guidance. It is very common and deep in the Zen door to discuss and inquire about "the purpose of the ancestral teacher coming from the west"However, there is no fixed and clear definition or answer for the specific meaning of "Xilai Yi". Large brushwork often has strong artistic appeal and unique aesthetic value, which can trigger the audience’s association and resonance, and make people feel a kind of spiritual power and artistic charm beyond the specific image when appreciating the work.

“Xilai freehand Brushwork” is the creative combination and fusion of “Xilai” and “freehand” Brushwork.
