Yu Aijun considers his works to be between sketches, oil paintings, poems and installation. The works were painted with oil on blueprint paper, and thereby carry historical information, revealing the passage of time and creating ambiguity. Like most visual artists, Yu Aijun is very concerned about the choice of image—however, he is interested in showing the diverse, changeable nature of the imagery. He also downplays the role of images—in his eyes, ‘imagery’ is simply the basic layer to his works; it serves only as a tool to prompt questions. He believes that images are manipulated by artists. The artistic choice of an image is impure; many factors, pragmatic or emotional, could influence it. Yu Aijun graduated with a B.A. from Luxun Academy of Fine Arts in Shenyang, China in 2004.
