Yu Aijun is a sceptic and adheres to a firm "useism" in his artistic work. He believes that every creative individual is an imaging end of the comprehensive sports landscape of the times. Freedom is restraint, and self is others. His practice focusses on painting, including touching a variety of media fields with painting as tentacles and objects. His work involves "sketch" rethinking, the use of ready-made products, (temporary) installations, images and poetry writing. For many years, he has been focussing on the problems and conflicts of individuals and collectives in many fields in practice, extracting images or images from our era, and integrating material and perception, physical and virtual, so as to carry out political commentary and media imagination. All of this is based on his personal temperament and work logic when he encounters his actions, scenes, materials and traditional resources, and also hopes to derive his personal sense of speech, skills and methods from it.

Yu Aijun was born in Taring, Liaoning Province in 1971. He graduated from Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts in 2004 with a bachelor’s degree. Now he works and lives in Shenyang.
