Xiong Yanjun’s recent work began to deliberately open up to humble and cheap materials, as well as to his surrounding environment and extended time. Through stitching, mosaic, adhesion and soaking, Xiong Yanjun fuses various different materials together to form "organic" integrated compositions - in terms of genre, they almost erase the boundaries of paintings, sculptures and installations (if they exist). Xiong Yanjun felt like a craftsman who made fake cultural relics. Although the shape of the product is different from that of cultural relics, he has some similar logic. The increasingly clear feeling is that in the past, it was spatial to always look for "conflicts" and strive to build a unified framework in antagonistic and parallel relations, but now what we do is to integrate, give up creating equality, conflicts and contrasts, and pursue compliance with nature, allowing thoughts, emotions, materials and behaviours to be in a relatively free and scattered time. Intermittent action occurs to precipitate something similar to "crystallisation". Things infiltrate each other, contain variables of time, and also change the temperament of the work. Contrary to what he has done before, Xiong Yanjun tried to re-cover something, wrap and cover up, and make the work chaotic again. At the same time, he had face and inside, in an attempt to evoke a certain missing meaning.

Xiong Yanjun was born in Liu’an, Anhui Province in 1977. He graduated from the School of Fine Arts of Anhui Normal University (B.A.) in 2001; and graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts of Nanjing University in 2008 (M.F.A.) . He now works and lives in Wuhu, Anhui Province.
